Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman was an English actor and director. Known for his deep, languid voice, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, performing in modern and classical theatre productions.
Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman was born on February 21, 1946 in Acton, London, England. His zodiac sign is Pisces and his ethnicity is English. He was the second of four children born to Margaret Doreen Rose and Bernard William Rickman. His parents ran a pub in nearby Hammersmith.
Rickman studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) from 1972 to 1974 and worked as a graphic designer before becoming an actor. Rickman also gained critical acclaim for his roles in the Harry Potter series, playing Professor Severus Snape from 2001-2011. Other notable performances include Colonel Brandon in "Sense and Sensibility," Piers Pomfrey in "Galaxy Quest," Judge Turpin in "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," Harry Hawkins in "Love Actually," Alexander Dane/Dr Lazarus in "Galaxy Quest" and Absolem the Caterpillar/Blue Caterpillar in Tim Burton's 2010 version of Alice In Wonderland.
Rickman passed away on January 14, 2016 from pancreatic cancer at the age of 69.
