About

Alex Rodriguez, born Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez on July 27, 1975, in New York City, is a professional baseball player. He has played for the Seattle Mariners (1994-2000), Texas Rangers (2001-2003), and New York Yankees (2004-2016). Rodriguez currently holds the distinction of being one of two players who have achieved the 3,000 hit milestone in Major League Baseball history. He is also known for setting numerous Major League Baseball records during his career including most career home runs by a shortstop and most career grand slams.

Rodriguez was initially drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1993 at the age of 17 and made his MLB debut with the team two years later in 1995. In 2000, he signed a record breaking 10 year contract with the Texas Rangers worth $252 million dollars making him the highest paid player ever at that time. After three successful seasons with Texas, he was traded to the Yankees where he went on to win an MVP award in 2005 and earn All Star selections every year from 2004 to 2012.

In 2013, it was revealed that he had used performance enhancing drugs while playing for the Yankees which led to him being suspended for 211 games. He then returned to baseball after serving his suspension and retired in 2016 after 22 seasons in Major League Baseball.

Throughout his career Alex Rodriguez earned many accolades including 14 All Star selections, 3 MVP awards, 10 Silver Slugger Awards and 2 Gold Glove Awards as well as other recognitions such as being named AL Comeback Player of the Year twice and American League Hank Aaron Award Winner three times.
