Amandla Stenberg was born on October 23, 1998, in Los Angeles, California. She is an African-American actress and singer known for her portrayal of Rue in The Hunger Games and her roles in other films such as Everything, Everything and The Hate U Give. Her zodiac sign is Scorpio.

Stenberg began acting in 2011 with the Disney Channel original movie Zeke and Luther. She gained recognition for her role as Rue in The Hunger Games and went on to appear in films such as Colombiana, Rio 2, Sleepy Hollow, Mr. Robinson, and As You Are. 

In 2016 she was featured alongside Amandla's idol Beyoncé Knowles Carter in Formation music video. In 2017 she released a powerful music video for her single "Let My Baby Stay," about immigration laws that separate families due to their legal status.

In 2018 she co-starred with Nick Robinson and Anika Noni Rose in the romantic drama Everything, Everything directed by Stella Meghie which grossed over $60 million worldwide against its budget of $10 million. Later that year she starred alongside Regina Hall and Russell Hornsby in George Tillman Jr.'s crime drama The Hate U Give based on Angie Thomas' best-selling novel of the same name; it became a critical success grossing over $50 million against its budget of $23 million. 

Amandla has also been involved in activism since 2014 when she posted a video on Instagram called “Don’t Cash Crop On My Cornrows” discussing cultural appropriation among white celebrities. She was named one of Time magazine’s Most Influential Teens of 2015 because of her work to bring more attention to social justice issues regarding race and gender equality.
