Andrew Scott is an Irish actor. He played Jim Moriarty in the BBC series Sherlock, for which he won the BAFTA Television Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Andrew Scott was born on October 21, 1976 in Dublin, Ireland. He is an Irish actor best known for his roles as Jim Moriarty in Sherlock and the Priest in Fleabag.
Scott attended Catholic school and later studied at Trinity College, Dublin. After graduating he joined the Abbey Theatre where he starred in plays such as Romeo and Juliet, The Plough and the Stars and A Girl in a Car with a Man. In 2006 he won the Best Supporting Actor Award from the Irish Film and Television Awards for his role in Prosperity.
Scott began appearing in British television series such as Band of Brothers, The Stretford Wives and Foyle's War before playing Paul McCartney in Lennon Naked for BBC Four. He then went on to play Moriarty in BBC's Sherlock which earned him international acclaim. Following this success he also appeared in films such as Victor Frankenstein, Denial and Pride alongside Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton.
In 2016 Scott starred alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Sian Clifford in the critically acclaimed comedy-drama Fleabag which earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor. His other notable TV credits include Black Mirror, His Dark Materials and Modern Love while his film credits include Locke, Spectre and Tenet.
