Anton Viktorovich Yelchin was an American actor. Born in the Soviet Union to a Russian Jewish family, he immigrated to the United States with his parents at the age of 6 months.
Anton Viktorovich Yelchin was born on March 11, 1989 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. His parents were figure skaters who had emigrated to the United States when Anton was a baby. He began acting at the age of 9 and appeared in numerous television shows, movies, and video games.
Yelchin's breakout role came in 2006 when he starred as Bobby Garfield in the film adaptation of Stephen King's novel Hearts in Atlantis. After his success with that film, he starred in several other films such as Alpha Dog (2007), Charlie Bartlett (2007), Star Trek (2009), Terminator Salvation (2009), Fright Night (2011) and Like Crazy (2011).
He won several awards for his performances, including a Best Male Lead award from the Independent Spirit Awards for his performance in Like Crazy. In 2016, he posthumously received a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Chekov in Star Trek Beyond.
Yelchin tragically passed away on June 19th, 2016 due to injuries sustained from an accident involving his car rolling backwards down his driveway. He was only 27 years old at the time of his passing and left behind an impressive body of work and many grieving fans around the world.
