Anushka Shetty (born 7 November 1981) is an Indian actress and model who works predominantly in the Telugu and Tamil film industries. Born in Mangalore, Karnataka, she made her acting debut in a 2005 Telugu film Super as the lead female character. She subsequently appeared in several commercially successful movies, including Vikramarkudu (2006), Arundhati (2009), Vedam (2010), Singam (2010) and Rudhramadevi (2015).

Shetty was born to Prafulla and A.N. Vittal Shetty in Mangalore, Karnataka. After completing her schooling at St. Ann's High School, she studied for her Bachelor of Computer Applications degree at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. Following that, she pursued a master's degree at the University of Southern California. She also trained in dance forms such as Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi for six years during her teens.

In 2004, Shetty began her career with a Bollywood movie called The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey which earned her much appreciation from critics. Her first major break came with the 2005 Telugu movie Super starring Nagarjuna Akkineni where she played the role of Sandhya Reddy which earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu nomination as well as several other awards nominations. Following this success, she went on to appear in several critically acclaimed films like Vikramarkudu which won multiple Nandi Awards including Best Actress; Arundhati which earned her two more Filmfare Award nominations; and Vedam which got her another nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Telugu.

In 2010-2011, Shetty starred in three blockbuster films - Singham opposite Suriya; Vaanam opposite Silambarasan; and Deiva Thirumagal opposite Vikram - all of which earned critical acclaim as well as box office success. In 2015, she played the titular role of Rani Rudrama Devi in Gunasekhar’s historical drama Rudhramadevi which became one of the highest-grossing period films ever made in India.

Shetty has received numerous accolades for her work including two CineMAA Awards for Best Actress - Telugu; four South Indian International Movie Awards; four Vijay Awards; one SIIMA Award; and two Santosham Film Awards among others.
