About

Ben Simmons was born in Melbourne, Australia on July 20, 1996. He grew up playing several sports including basketball, soccer, and Australian rules football. He attended Box Hill Senior Secondary College and then moved to Montverde Academy in Florida to pursue a career in basketball.

Simmons was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as the first overall pick in the 2016 N.B.A. draft. During his rookie year, he became the third player since 1975–76 to average at least 15 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists per game during a season and was named N.B.A. Rookie of the Year for the 2016–17 season. He continued this success in the 2017–18 season when he was named an All-Star for the first time and also led all rookies with 12 triple-doubles, tied for ninth among all players during that same season.

In 2019, Simmons was voted as an All-Star starter by fans for the second consecutive year and became only the fifth player in franchise history to be named an All-Star starter multiple times.
