Brandy Rayana Norwood, known professionally as Brandy, was born on February 11, 1979 in McComb, Mississippi. She is an American singer, songwriter, record producer and actress. She rose to fame in the 1990s with her single “I Wanna Be Down” from her self titled album, which won her a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance.

Her second album Never Say Never (1998) was certified eight-times platinum and spawned many successful singles including "The Boy Is Mine", a duet with Monica which received Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Her third album Full Moon (2002) became her first to top the US Billboard 200 chart and sold over three million copies in the US alone.

In 1996, Brandy made her acting debut when she starred in the UPN sitcom Moesha which ran until 2001. The series earned her two NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series and spawned two more albums; Human (2008) and Two Eleven (2012). She released her sixth studio album B7 in 2020 to critical acclaim. 

Throughout her career, Brandy has won numerous awards such as four Billboard Music Awards, four Soul Train Music Awards, five NAACP Image Awards and one American Music Award. She has also been nominated for four Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards.
