Brendan James Fraser is an American-Canadian actor known for his leading roles in blockbusters, comedies, and dramatic films. Having graduated from the Cornish College of the Arts in 1990, he made his film debut in Dogfight. Fraser had his breakthrough in 1992 with the comedy Encino Man and the drama School Ties.
Brendan James Fraser was born on December 3, 1968, in Indianapolis, Indiana. His mother is Canadian and his father is American. He has three older brothers and one younger sister. Fraser attended Upper Canada College, a private school in Toronto, where he began acting in theater productions at age twelve. He then went on to graduate from Seattle’s Cornish College of the Arts in 1990 with a degree in theater arts.
Fraser made his film debut in 1992’s “Encino Man”. He followed this up with roles in other successful films such as “George of the Jungle” (1997), “Godzilla” (1998) and “The Mummy” (1999). In 2000 Fraser starred opposite Michael Caine and Christopher Walken in the comedy-drama “The Quiet American” which garnered him critical acclaim and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama nomination.
In 2002 Fraser starred alongside Rachel Weisz and John Hannah in “The Mummy Returns” which earned him an MTV Movie Award for Best On-Screen Team. That same year he worked with director Peter Weir on the critically acclaimed drama “The Magdalene Sisters” which won the Audience Award at Cannes Film Festival.
In recent years Fraser has worked primarily on television series such as Showtime's “The Affair” (2014–2018) and FX's “Trust” (2018). He also returned to feature films with roles such as Giggle McDimples in Toy Story 4 (2019), Efram Potelle in Extraordinary Measures (2010) and William Tell in Goliath (2016–present).
