Blanchett attended the Methodist Ladies' College in Melbourne, where she excelled at drama and joined the National Institute of Dramatic Art after graduating.

Blanchett began her acting career in the early 1990s with small roles in television series before making her feature film debut in "Paradise Road" (1997). She then starred in a variety of films such as "Thank God He Met Lizzie" (1997), "Elizabeth" (1998), "The Talented Mr. Ripley" (1999) and "Charlotte Gray" (2001). In 2004, she won an Academy Award for her performance as Katharine Hepburn in the biopic "The Aviator". Other notable roles include "Notes on a Scandal" (2006), "I'm Not There" (2007), and "Blue Jasmine" (2013). She also voice-acted for the animated film "How to Train Your Dragon 2" (2014) and reprised her role as Galadriel in The Lord of The Rings trilogy sequels. 

In addition to her acting career, Blanchett is also a patron of the Sydney Theatre Company which she co-founded in 2008 alongside husband Andrew Upton. She has been nominated for several awards including two Primetime Emmy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, six AACTA Awards, four BAFTA Awards, three SAG Awards and four Critics Choice Movie Awards.
