Chip is an English rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. He has gained critical acclaim for his lyrical content and delivery, as well as his versatility with multiple genres of music. His signature sound has earned him two MOBO Awards and a Brit Award nomination.
Chipmunk (born Jahmaal Fyffe) is a British rapper from London, England. He was born on 26th November 1990 in Tottenham, North London and grew up there. Chip started to develop an interest in music at an early age, when he realised that his love for it could be converted into a passion for rapping. He first got noticed at the age of 16 when he performed at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. His performance earned him respect from local MCs and industry heads alike.
Chip quickly began to make waves in the UK rap scene, releasing his debut mixtape ‘League Of My Own’ in 2007 which went on to become one of the most acclaimed releases of the year. This led to him signing with Sony Music Entertainment later that same year and releasing his debut studio album ‘I Am Chipmunk’ in 2009, which spawned three UK Top 10 singles: ‘Chip Diddy Chip’, ‘Diamond Rings’ and ‘Oopsy Daisy’. The success of this album cemented Chip as one of the major players in UK rap music, leading to collaborations with some of the biggest names in hip-hop including; Tinie Tempah, Chris Brown and Trey Songz.
In 2011 Chip released his second studio album ‘Transition’ which featured production from Dr Dre and guest vocals by Emeli Sande and Wretch 32. His third full length release came two years later with the critically acclaimed ‘London Boy’ which featured several collaborations with urban heavyweights such as Giggs and Skepta. In 2016 he released his fourth studio album ‘League Of My Own II’ which included tracks featuring artists such as Stormzy, Bugzy Malone and Shalo Kan.
Since then Chip has continued to stay relevant within UK rap music by releasing mixtapes such as 'Victory' (2017) and 'LOTM6' (2019). He has also performed at various festivals around Europe including Wireless Festival, Reading & Leeds Festival and Glastonbury Festival amongst others.
