Dan Stevens was born on October 10th, 1982 in Croydon, England. He is an English actor, best known for his role as Matthew Crawley in the British period drama series “Downton Abbey” and his roles in several Hollywood films such as “The Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast”.

Stevens attended Tonbridge School in Kent, where he had a passion for acting. After school he studied at London's Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. After graduating from drama school in 2004, Stevens won a number of awards including the Ian Charleson Award for Best Actor under 30 for his performance in “The Pirates Of Penzance”.

In 2010, Stevens landed his breakthrough role on Downton Abbey as Matthew Crawley. His performance earned him critical acclaim and numerous award nominations. In 2012 he also starred as Sir Lancelot in the film adaptation of “A Knight's Tale” alongside Heath Ledger and Paul Bettany.

In 2014 he played David Haller in the FX television show “Legion” which earned him critical acclaim and led to several other roles including The Guest (2014), Beauty and the Beast (2017) and Apostle (2018). He has also appeared in several stage productions including Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (2008) at Theatre Royal Haymarket in London, The Heiress (2012) on Broadway, Arcadia (2013) at Chichester Festival Theatre, City of Angels (2015) at Donmar Warehouse, On the Shore of the Wide World (2016) at Royal Exchange Manchester and The Leisure Society (2019).
