About

Darius Garland was born on January 26, 2000 in Gary, Indiana. He is the son of former NBA player Winston Garland and his wife LeShelle. His zodiac sign is Aquarius, and his ethnicity is African-American. He attended Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee. While playing for the basketball team there, he was a four-time Division II Class AA All-State selection as well as being named Mr. Basketball in the state of Tennessee in 2017–18.

Garland committed to playing college basketball at Vanderbilt University in October 2017. However, he reneged on his commitment after head coach Bryce Drew left the program and instead chose to attend the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). During his freshman season with UCLA, Garland averaged 12 points per game while shooting 45 percent from 3-point range. He also led the Pac-12 Conference with 5.1 assists per game before an injury ended his season prematurely after just five games.

In June 2019, Garland declared for the 2019 NBA draft and was selected fifth overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers on June 20th. Since then, he has been working hard to become a key contributor for the team and has shown promise early in his career with averages of 14 points and 4 assists per game during his first two seasons with the Cavs.
