David Adedeji Adeleke, better known as Davido, was born on November 21, 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a Nigerian-American singer and songwriter who rose to fame after his hit single “Dami Duro” in 2011.

Davido was raised in Lagos, Nigeria by his parents Deji and Vero Adeleke, who are both wealthy businesspeople. Growing up, he attended the British International School in Lagos and traveled frequently between the United States and Nigeria. At age 17 he enrolled at Oakwood University in Alabama but quickly transferred to Babcock University in Ogun State to pursue music.

In 2011, he released his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo which featured the chart-topping single “Dami Duro”. The success of this album allowed him to perform on several shows including MTV Base Official Naija Top Ten and Headies Awards. In 2012 he received a BET Award nomination for Best International Act: Africa.

In 2016, Davido released his second studio album Son of Mercy which earned him two nominations at the 2017 Soul Train Music Awards for Best New Artist and Song of the Year with “Fall”. Since then he has won countless awards including MTV Europe Music Awards for Best African Act (2018) and BET Awards for Viewers Choice Award (2019). His third studio album A Good Time was released in 2019 and it peaked at number one on Billboard World Albums Chart. In 2020 he became the first artist from Africa to appear on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
