DeMar DeRozan is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has been selected to four All-Star teams and was named an All-NBA Team member in 2018. DeRozan is known for his high-flying dunks and efficient scoring ability, making him one of the most dynamic players in the NBA.
DeMar DeRozan was born on August 7, 1989, in Compton, California. His zodiac sign is Leo and his ethnicity is African-American. He was raised by his mother and father, Diane and Frank DeRozan. DeRozan attended Compton High School where he began playing basketball at the age of 14. He was recruited by USC but chose to attend the University of Southern California (USC). At USC he played for two seasons with the Trojans under head coach Tim Floyd.
In 2009, DeRozan declared himself eligible for the NBA draft and was selected ninth overall by the Toronto Raptors. During his rookie season in Toronto, DeRozan averaged 8.6 points per game and earned All-Rookie Second Team honors. In 2010–11, he improved to an average of 17 points a game and was named to the All-Star Rising Stars Challenge at the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend.
In 2013, DeRozan accepted a four year contract extension with the Raptors that made him one of the highest paid players in franchise history. During this time he also became an NBA All-Star in 2014, 2016 and 2017 representing the Eastern Conference at each of these events. In 2016–17, DeRozan set career highs with 27 points per game and 4 assists per game as well as leading all Eastern Conference guards in scoring for the second straight season with a total of 1,344 points scored.
DeRozan continues to play for the Raptors today and is currently averaging 23 points per game during the 2019–20 season. Over his 11 year career so far, he has been selected to four all-star games, been awarded one bronze medal from international competition with Team USA at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and looks forward to winning an NBA championship for Toronto before his career ends.
