Dennis Keith Rodman is an American former professional basketball player. Known for his fierce defensive and rebounding abilities, his biography on the official NBA website states that he is "arguably the best rebounding forward in NBA history".
Dennis Rodman was born on May 13, 1961, in Trenton, New Jersey. He is the son of Philander and Shirley Rodman, and he has two siblings. Rodman attended South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas and then transferred to Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Rodman started playing basketball at an early age and was soon known for his rebounding ability. He was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the second round of the 1986 NBA draft and made his debut with the team in December 1986. In 1990, he became one of only three players to average at least 20 rebounds per game for a season.
In 1993, Rodman joined the Chicago Bulls, where he earned five consecutive NBA championships alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. His defensive prowess contributed immensely to the team's success during this period. In 1996, he joined the Los Angeles Lakers but left after one season due to differences with coach Del Harris.
Rodman joined the Dallas Mavericks in 2000, but left shortly after due to personal issues. He then signed with the Long Beach Jam of the American Basketball Association (ABA), before joining the ABA’s San Diego Stingrays in 2003. After playing briefly with several other teams over the years, Rodman retired from basketball in 2006.
In addition to his basketball career, Rodman has appeared as a professional wrestler and on numerous television shows such as “The Apprentice” and “Celebrity Big Brother” UK. He is also an author with two autobiography books: “Bad As I Wanna Be” (1996) and “Walk On The Wild Side” (2000).
