Derrick Martell Rose is an American professional basketball player for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association. He played one year of college basketball for the Memphis Tigers before being drafted first overall by his hometown Chicago Bulls in the 2008 NBA draft.
Derrick Martell Rose was born on October 4th, 1988 in Chicago, Illinois. His zodiac sign is Libra and his ethnicity is African-American. He is the youngest son of Brenda Rose and her husband, a former basketball player and coach, Derrick Rose Sr. His older brother Reggie inspired him to play basketball.
Rose attended Simeon Career Academy high school in Chicago, where he was a four-year starter for their varsity team. He received several awards during his high school career including being named Illinois Mr. Basketball by the Chicago Tribune in 2007 and Parade Magazine All-American in that same year. He also led his team to two state championships in his junior and senior years.
Rose decided to skip college and join the NBA draft after graduating from high school, making him the first ever Chicago Public League Player drafted number one overall when he was selected by the Bulls in 2008. During his rookie season he won the Rookie of the Year award and broke Michael Jordan's record for most points scored by a rookie in a single game when he scored 36 points against the New York Knicks. In 2011 he was voted MVP of the league and led the Bulls to their best regular season record since 1997.
Injuries have plagued Rose's career ever since then with multiple knee surgeries, causing him to miss several seasons of basketball at a time before eventually returning to action later on down the road. Despite these setbacks, he remains an incredibly talented player who has been able to bounce back each time with strong performances on both sides of the court. He currently plays for the Detroit Pistons after spending time with both Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves in between his stints with Chicago Bulls.
