Dharmendra, born Dharmendra Singh Deol on 8 December 1935, is a popular Bollywood actor. Born in Nasrali village of Punjab's Ludhiana district, he is considered to be one of the most successful Hindi film actors of all time. He has acted in over 250 films in a career that spans five decades.

Dharmendra made his debut as an actor in 1960's Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere and rose to stardom with the action movie Phool Aur Patthar (1966). His other notable films include Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), Jugnu (1973), Sholay (1975), Chupke Chupke (1975), Chacha Bhatija (1977), The Burning Train (1980) and Dostana (1980). He also ventured into production with Rajkumar Kohli's Lalkar and went on to produce several movies such as Yash Chopra's Karan Arjun and Rajkumar Santoshi's Ghayal.

Dharmendra has won several awards throughout his career including Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Phool Aur Patthar, BFJA Awards for Best Actor for Pratigya and Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema in 1997. He was honored with Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India in 2012.
