About

Dirk Werner Nowitzki was born on June 19, 1978, in Wurzburg, Germany. His zodiac sign is Gemini and his ethnicity is German. Nowitzki grew up in his hometown with his parents Jorg and Helga and his older sister Silke. He started playing basketball at the young age of nine, and he was very passionate about the game from an early age.

Nowitzki attended Rontgen Gymnasium and played for the local DJK Wurzburg basketball team, where he received multiple awards, such as the German Youth Championship MVP award in 1996. In 1998, he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks as the ninth overall pick in the N.B.A. draft, but he was immediately traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

In 1999–2000 season, Nowitzki became one of the best players in the league while also leading all rookies in scoring; he won both Rookie of the Year Award and Most Improved Player Award that year. He continued to improve year after year and became a dominant force in N.B.A., being named an All-Star 11 times between 2002–2012 and an All-NBA Team member 8 times between 2004–2013.

In 2006, Nowitzki led Mavericks to their first ever NBA Finals appearance against Miami Heat; unfortunately they lost to them 4-2 series loss but Nowitzki had a great performance throughout the playoffs averaging 26 points per game for all 22 games of postseason run.

In 2007–2008 season Nowitzki made a second consecutive trip to NBA Finals with Mavericks this time emerging victorious over LeBron James’s Cleveland Cavaliers 4-2 series victory winning him a Finals MVP award which he shared with teammate Jason Terry.

Throughout his career Dirk Nowitzki has established himself as one of the greatest shooters of all time becoming only sixth player in N.B.A history to be named into 50-40-90 club (shooting 50% from field 40% from three point range and 90% from free throw line). On April 9th 2019 Dirk announced that 2018–2019 season would be his last season ending his 20 year Hall of Fame career with Dallas Mavericks being one of most beloved players not only for team itself but also for entire city of Dallas due to his loyalty towards Mavericks organization never wanting to leave it even when other teams were offering more money than what Mavs could offer him during free agency periods during his career..
