Earl Simmons, better known as DMX or Dark Man X, was born on December 18, 1970 in Mount Vernon, New York. He is an American rapper, record producer, actor and author. His parents were both African-American and his mother was a nurse. He attended school until the eighth grade and began to rap at a young age.

DMX first rose to fame in 1998 with the release of his debut studio album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot. The album spawned two Billboard Hot 100 top five singles “Get At Me Dog” and “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem”. This was followed by his second album Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 Chart in 1998. His third studio album And Then There Was X won him the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2000.

DMX released his fourth studio album Grand Champ in 2003 and his fifth studio album Year of the Dog… Again followed in 2006. In 2010 he released his sixth studio album Undisputed and in 2012 he released his seventh studio album entitled Redemption of the Beast. DMX has released eight albums throughout his career which have sold over 30 million copies worldwide making him one of the best selling hip hop artists of all time. 

Throughout his career DMX has also appeared as an actor in several films such as Belly (1998), Romeo Must Die (2000) Exit Wounds (2001) Cradle 2 The Grave (2003) Last Hour (2006) Never Die Alone (2008), I Think I Love My Wife (2007) and Top Five (2014). In addition to acting DMX has also written three books E.A.R.L: The Autobiography of DMX , The Prayer VII and The Gospel Of Eve .
