Dwayne Douglas Johnson, also known by his ring name The Rock, was born on May 2, 1972 in Hayward, California. He is of Canadian and Samoan descent. Johnson's father, Rocky Johnson, was a professional wrestler and his mother, Ata Maivia, was the daughter of a wrestling promoter. Growing up in a family of wrestlers meant that Johnson was exposed to the world of sports entertainment from an early age.
Johnson attended Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and then went on to play college football at the University of Miami. In 1995 he signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League but left after two months to pursue a career in professional wrestling.
In 1996 Johnson made his WWF debut as “The Rock” and quickly rose to become one of the most popular wrestlers in history. In 2000 he made his acting debut in The Mummy Returns and has since starred in numerous blockbuster films such as The Scorpion King, Fast & Furious franchise, Jumanji series, Baywatch, Moana and more.
In addition to acting and wrestling he is also an author having released two autobiographies - The Rock Says… (2000) and The Rock: This Is My Story (2007). Furthermore his productions credit include Ballers (2015-2019), Young Rock (2021) and Fighting With My Family (2019).
Johnson has received numerous awards including 2 People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Male Movie Star (2002 & 2003) and Favorite Premium Series Actor (2018), Kid’s Choice Award for Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie (2017) as well as 3 MTV Movie Awards for Best Fight (2001), Best On-Screen Team (2001) and Generation Award (2019). He also holds several Guinness World Records titles including Highest-Grossing Actor of All Time ($10.5 billion).
