Ewan Gordon McGregor was born on March 31, 1971 in Perth, Scotland. He is a Scottish actor and director, best known for his roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999–2005), Renton in Trainspotting (1996), Lumière in Beauty and the Beast (2017), Mark Renton in T2 Trainspotting (2017) and Christian in Moulin Rouge! (2001). He has also appeared in many other films such as The Pillow Book (1996), Big Fish (2003) and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011).

McGregor studied drama at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama before beginning his professional acting career in 1993. His breakout role came when he starred as heroin addict Mark Renton in Danny Boyle's cult classic Trainspotting. This performance earned him two British Independent Film Award nominations for Best Actor, and further success with the lead role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

McGregor has won several awards throughout his career, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Moulin Rouge!. In addition to acting, McGregor has directed several short films, including the musical comedy Little Malcolm & His Struggle Against the Eunuchs. He also gained critical acclaim for his performance as the title character of I Love You Phillip Morris (2009).
