Gloria Estefan is a Cuban-American singer, songwriter, actress, and entrepreneur born on September 1st, 1957. She is from Havana, Cuba and moved to the United States with her family in 1959. They settled in Miami where she attended St. Michael-Archangel School and later enrolled at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy for secondary education. She started her music career as part of the group Miami Latin Boys in 1975 and later became the lead vocalist for the group Miami Sound Machine in 1977. The group found success with their 1985 album Primitive Love which featured their biggest hit single "Conga".

Estefan's solo career began in 1989 with her debut album Cuts Both Ways which included two number one singles "Don't Wanna Lose You" and "Oye Mi Canto"  By 1991 she was an international superstar with her smash hit single “Coming Out Of The Dark” from the album Into The Light which became her most successful album selling over seven million copies worldwide. Throughout her career Estefan has sold over 100 million albums worldwide making her one of the best selling Latin artists of all time.

In addition to her musical accomplishments Estefan has also had great success as an author writing several children's books including Noelle's Treasure Tale (2000) and The Magically Mysterious Adventures of Noelle the Bulldog (2003). She has also appeared in numerous films including Music Of My Heart (1999) and For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story (2000). Estefan has received numerous awards throughout her career such as two Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, three Latin Grammy Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, two American Music Awards among many others.
