He was raised by Doris Benjamin and Hosea Jackson, who both worked for the UCLA grounds department. As a teenager, Ice Cube developed a passion for hip hop music and began writing raps with his friends in high school.

In 1987, Ice Cube formed the group C.I.A., which eventually evolved into N.W.A., one of the most influential rap groups of all time. The group released their first album “Straight Outta Compton” in 1988 to critical acclaim and commercial success, becoming pioneers of gangsta rap. After leaving N.W.A., Ice Cube started his solo career with the release of his debut album “AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted” in 1990 to great success. He has also produced films including “Straight Outta Compton” (2015) and directed music videos for artists such as Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg. In 2019 he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for the song "This Is America" from the film "Black Panther".
