IU, born Lee Ji-eun, is a South Korean pop singer-songwriter and actress. She was born on May 16, 1993, in Songjeong-dong, Seoul, South Korea. Her zodiac sign is Taurus and her ethnicity is Korean. IU began her career as a child actress when she was only fifteen and made her musical debut with the song “Lost Child” in 2008. She then released several singles and albums including “Real” and “Last Fantasy” which both topped the Gaon Album Chart.

In 2011, she released her first full-length album “Real+” which debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart. In 2012, IU became the host of MBC's Music Core and also released her second full-length album “Modern Times” which sold over one million copies in South Korea alone. In 2013, IU released two studio albums titled “Chat-Shire” and “A Flower Bookmark” which topped music charts worldwide.

IU has won numerous awards during her career such as the Golden Disc Award for Best Female Artist (2012) and Best Digital Single (2015).
