James Edward Harden Jr. was born on August 26, 1989 in Los Angeles, California. He is an American professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for Arizona State, where he was named a consensus All-American and Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2009. The Oklahoma City Thunder selected him with the third overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft. In 2012, Harden was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year with the Thunder and helped the team reach the NBA Finals. He was traded to Houston prior to the 2012–13 NBA season. Upon joining the Rockets, Harden became one of the NBA's most prolific scorers and earned recognition as the best shooting guard in the NBA, as well as one of its most versatile players.

Harden is a seven-time NBA All-Star and has earned All-NBA Team honors five times, including four first-team selections. He is also a former member of the United States national basketball team and won gold medals with them at both the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2014 FIBA World Cup tournaments. In 2019, he became one of only 11 players to have been named MVP and led his team to at least 50 regular-season wins in multiple seasons by winning his second MVP award that year.
