Jenna Coleman was born on April 27, 1986, in Blackpool, Lancashire, England. She is a British actress best known for her roles in Doctor Who and Victoria. She studied drama at the University of York and trained at the National Youth Theatre and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Coleman made her television debut in 2006 on an episode of The Royal Today. In 2009 she appeared in her breakthrough role as Clara Oswald in Doctor Who alongside Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor. Coleman played the character until 2015 when she left the show to pursue other projects.

In 2016 Coleman took on the lead role of Queen Victoria in ITV’s period drama Victoria alongside Rufus Sewell and Tom Hughes. She won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress for her performance in 2018.

Coleman has also had success in film, appearing in Me Before You (2016) with Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin, Ready Player One (2018) with Tye Sheridan, Simon Pegg, Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Cooke, and Mark Rylance, and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).

In 2020 Coleman returned to Doctor Who as the Thirteenth Doctor's companion after Peter Capaldi's exit from the series.
