Jessie Mei Li is an English actress, best known for her roles in the television series Shadow and Bone. She was born on June 8th, 1996 in Camden, London. Her mother is a Chinese Malaysian who immigrated to England when she was young and her father is British-Chinese. She has two older brothers.

Li attended The Latymer School in Edmonton, North London before studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA). She graduated from RADA in 2017 with a BA Hons Acting degree. After graduating, she made appearances in theater productions such as A Midsummer Night's Dream at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre and Yellow Face at the Park Theatre.

In 2020, Li landed her breakthrough role as Alina Starkov in the Netflix original series Shadow and Bone. The show was hugely successful and earned Li a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama at the 78th Golden Globe Awards. Additionally, she won Breakout Talent of the Year at the 2021 Critics Choice Awards.

Apart from acting, Li enjoys playing violin and spending time with friends and family. In 2017, she founded the charity organization “Matter” which works to provide opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their dreams.
