Jorja Alice Smith is an English singer-songwriter. Born and raised in Walsall, West Midlands, she has been writing songs since the age of 11. In 2012, Smith's friend uploaded her cover of Labrinth's "Earthquake" to YouTube, which led to her discovery by record producer Guy Moot.
Jorja Smith is an English R&B singer and songwriter who was born on June 11, 1997, in Walsall, England. She is of Jamaican and English descent. Her father, Peter Smith, is a local councilor for the Labour Party in Walsall. Jorja attended St. Paul’s Catholic College to study music and began writing her own material at the age 16. She has described herself as “a bit of a loner” during this period and said that she found comfort in writing music.
In 2016, Jorja released her debut project EP entitled Project 11. The EP featured seven tracks including "Blue Lights", "Where Did I Go?", "A Prince" and "So Lonely". The success of these songs led to Jorja being nominated for the highly coveted BBC Music Sound Of 2017 Award. Following this nomination, she released her debut studio album Lost & Found on 8 June 2018 which debuted at number three on the UK Albums Chart. The album featured singles such as "Teenage Fantasy", "February 3rd" and "On My Mind". In 2019, Jorja won the Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist.
Jorja has also collaborated with artists such as Drake, Kali Uchis, Rudimental and Stormzy among others. In 2020 she made an appearance on Kendrick Lamar's album DAMN., featuring on the track entitled ‘I Am’. Most recently she performed at Glastonbury Festival in 2020 to a sold out crowd where she performed hits from her albums as well as covers of classic songs by Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill.
