Mingyu is a South Korean rapper and singer who debuted in 2015 as a member of the boy group SEVENTEEN. He is known for his smooth rapping style, which combines elements of hip-hop, R&B and K-pop. Mingyu has also become popular for his mellow vocals and charismatic stage presence.
Mingyu, born Lee Mingyu on October 15th, 1998 in Seoul, South Korea is a rapper, singer and songwriter. He debuted as a member of the South Korean boy group SEVENTEEN in 2015. The group's music style is a fusion of hip hop and R&B. Mingyu has contributed to many of the group's songs as a lyricist and composer.
Mingyu started his career as an underground battle rapper at the age of fourteen under the name “X-Teen”. During his time as an underground artist he released several mixtapes and singles that were well received by fans. In 2014, he participated in Mnet’s rap survival show Show Me The Money 4, which helped launch him into mainstream recognition.
In 2015, Mingyu was signed to Pledis Entertainment and debuted with SEVENTEEN. Since then he has been actively promoting with the group both domestically and internationally; releasing hit albums such as Love & Letter (2016), Going Seventeen (2017), You Make My Day (2018) and An Ode (2019). He has also made appearances on several variety shows such as Weekly Idol, Knowing Bros and A Look at Myself.
Outside of SEVENTEEN, Mingyu released his first solo single "My Way" in 2019 which reached number one on major Korean music charts such as Melon and Genie Music. In 2020 he also released two digital singles "Thinking About You" and "I'm Not Alone".
Mingyu is known for his versatility when it comes to rapping and singing, making him one of the most popular members of SEVENTEEN.
