A Mediterranean port whose bench reaches back through the Kingdom of Valencia to the Taifa of Balansiya. Valencia's distinctive professions are professors, philosophers, sculptors, and architects alongside a heavy column of painters — Sorolla most famous among them — and the early tail runs through Ibn Jubayr and the Arab-Andalusi poets of the 12th century. The House of Aragon provided four medieval kings born in or around the city, and Blasco Ibáñez's realist novels still define the modern literary shelf.
