Adam Richard Sandler was born on September 9, 1966, in Brooklyn, New York. He is the son of Judith Levine and Stanley Sandler, and he has two brothers: Scott and Elizabeth. His family is Jewish and his father was a Jewish-American electrician. Sandler attended Manchester Central High School and graduated in 1984.
Sandler first became involved with performing arts when he started to act in plays while attending high school. After graduating from high school, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue stand-up comedy as well as acting in television roles. His career began as a cast member on Saturday Night Live (SNL) from 1990 to 1995, where he became known for his characters such as "Operaman" and "Canteen Boy". Following his stint on SNL, he made several movies throughout the 1990s including Billy Madison (1995), Happy Gilmore (1996), The Wedding Singer (1998), Big Daddy (1999).
Sandler's box office appeal continued into the 2000s with movies like The Waterboy (1998), Little Nicky (2000), Mr. Deeds (2002) and 50 First Dates (2004). He also starred in the successful animated movie Hotel Transylvania (2012), which spawned three sequels: Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015), Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018) and Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (2021). In 2014 Sandler signed a four-movie deal with Netflix that would see him star in four original films exclusive to the streaming service. The first of these movies, Ridiculous 6, was released in 2015 followed by Sandy Wexler (2017), The Week Of (2018) and Hubie Halloween (2020).
