About

Adrian Lewis Peterson was born on March 21, 1985 in Palestine, Texas. He is an American football running back for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Oklahoma and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings seventh overall in the 2007 NFL Draft. Peterson set the NCAA freshman rushing record with 1,925 yards as a true freshman during the 2004 season. As a unanimous All-American, he became the first freshman to finish as the runner-up in the Heisman Trophy balloting.

Peterson finished his college career as the Sooners' third all-time leading rusher. In his NFL career, he has been selected to seven Pro Bowls (2008–2010, 2012–2014) and was named an All-Pro six times (2008–2013). During his career with Minnesota, he rushed for over 10,000 yards becoming only one of three players to do so. He also holds the single game rushing record for most yards gained in a single game (296).

He has also achieved numerous accolades off the field including being named '2012 Sportsman of the Year' by Sports Illustrated magazine and receiving The Associated Press's 'Male Athlete of the Year' award for 2012. In 2013 Peterson was indicted on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child after disciplining his four year old son with a wooden switch; he later pleaded no contest to reduced charges and received probationary sentencing. After playing 10 seasons with Minnesota and two with New Orleans Saints, Peterson signed with Detroit Lions on August 28th 2020.
