Algee Smith IV is an American actor and singer. After appearing in several small television roles, Smith first rose to fame portraying Ralph Tresvant in BET's The New Edition Story miniseries. The same year, he garnered critical acclaim as Larry Reed in Kathryn Bigelow's film Detroit.
Algee Smith was born on November 4, 1995, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is an American actor, singer and songwriter best known for his roles in films such as The Hate U Give and Detroit. Smith attended the Forest Hills Northern High School and then went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from Davenport University.
Smith's acting career began when he landed a small role in the 2013 film, We the Party. Following this, he appeared in a number of television series including Liv & Maddie, K.C. Undercover and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. In 2017, Smith starred in Detroit alongside John Boyega and Will Poulter which earned him critical acclaim. His other notable films are The Hate U Give (2018), The Holiday Calendar (2018) and Dear White People (2019).
As well as being an actor, Smith is also a talented musician who released his debut EP 'In My Zone' in 2018. He has collaborated with several rappers including Lil Yachty and Lil Baby as well as producing his own music videos on YouTube. Aside from his singing career, Smith has also been involved with various charities such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Stand Up To Cancer.
