Barbra Streisand was born on April 24, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York. She is an American singer, songwriter, actress and filmmaker. Streisand is one of the most successful female recording artists in history and has sold over 68 million albums worldwide. She has won two Oscars, eight Grammy Awards, five Emmy Awards and a Special Tony Award. 

Streisand began performing as a child in Brooklyn, where she received vocal training from her mother's neighbor. In 1960, she released her first album and within two years had 12 top 40 singles on the Billboard charts. Her first major success came with the release of her second album "The Barbra Streisand Album" which won her two Grammy Awards. 

In 1964, Streisand made her Broadway debut in "Funny Girl" and went on to become a star of both stage and screen. She starred in several films throughout the 1960s including "Funny Girl", "Hello Dolly!" and "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever". In 1969 she released her sixth studio album which was the best selling album of 1970 and featured her hit single “Evergreen” which won an Oscar for Best Original Song. 

Throughout the 1970s Streisand continued to be a major presence in music, film and television winning several awards including Emmys for her TV specials “My Name Is Barbra” (1965) and “Barbra: The Concert” (1995). She also produced several movies such as “The Prince Of Tides” (1991) which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Director; she remains the only woman to ever be nominated for that award. 

Streisand continues to make music today with recent releases such as “Partners” (2014), “Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway” (2016) and “Walls” (2018). She also continues to tour regularly throughout North America performing hits from throughout her career.
