Cassandra Peterson was born on September 17, 1951 in Manhattan, Kansas. She is an American actress, singer and media personality who is most well-known for her work as the horror hostess Elvira. She attended General William J. Palmer High School in Colorado Springs before attending the University of Colorado Boulder. After college, she moved to Italy where she worked in television commercials and appeared in several Italian films.

In 1981, Peterson auditioned for and landed the role of Elvira for a horror movie showcase series called "Fright Night". Her Elvira character quickly gained popularity due to her unique look and sultry persona, and she began appearing on other television shows and movies. She has since gone on to appear in numerous films such as "Elvira's Haunted Hills", "Elvira's Movie Macabre", "The Search for the Lost Skeleton of Cadavra" and "Pee Wee's Big Adventure."

In addition to acting, Peterson has also released several music albums and books. She is an active philanthropist who works with various organizations including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and more. Throughout her career, Peterson has won numerous awards including a Saturn Award for Best Actress in 1988 for her role as Elvira.
