Christopher Crosby Farley was an American comedian and actor. Farley was known for his loud, energetic comedic style, and was a member of Chicago's Second City Theatre and later a cast member of the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live for five seasons from 1990 to 1995.
Chris Farley was born on February 15th, 1964 in Madison, Wisconsin. He was the second of five children born to Mary Anne and Thomas Farley. His father worked as an oil executive while his mother taught at a local Catholic school. Farley grew up in Madison and attended Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart, where he participated in theater productions and played football.
Farley began performing stand-up comedy during college at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he earned a degree in communication and theatre arts. After graduation, he moved to Chicago to pursue his dream of becoming a professional comedian and actor. From 1987 to 1995, Farley was part of the cast of Saturday Night Live, where he gained fame for his portly frame and over-the-top characters such as Matt Foley, motivational speaker; Todd O'Connor from Bill Swerski's Super Fans; and Bennett Brauer from The Chris Farley Show.
Farley gained further recognition for his work in films like Tommy Boy (1995), Black Sheep (1996), Beverly Hills Ninja (1997) and Almost Heroes (1998). Sadly, Farley passed away in 1997 due to an accidental overdose of cocaine and morphine. He was posthumously awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005 and the Comedy Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
