Jewel Kilcher is an American singer-songwriter, actress, and author. She has received four Grammy Award nominations and, as of 2021, has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Jewel was raised near Homer, Alaska, where she grew up singing and yodeling as a duo with her father, a local musician.
Jewel Kilcher was born on May 23, 1974, in Payson, Utah. Her zodiac sign is Gemini and her ethnicity is Swiss-German and English. She is the daughter of Lenedra Carroll and Atz Kilcher. Jewel's parents divorced when she was eight years old, and she moved with her father to Homer, Alaska where she lived in a cabin without running water or electricity.
Jewel began writing songs at age six, and her first song "My Father's Daughter" was written after her father gifted her a guitar. In the mid-1990s, she left Alaska for San Diego where she formed a band which performed at local coffee houses. This led to the release of her debut album 'Pieces Of You' in 1995 that featured hit singles such as ‘You Were Meant For Me’ and ‘Foolish Games’. The album was a success and went on to become 8x Platinum making it one of the best selling debut albums of all time.
In 1998, Jewel released the album 'Spirit', which topped the Billboard 200 chart for two weeks with hits such as "Hands" and "Down So Long". After releasing two more albums in 2001 and 2003 respectively, Jewel shifted focus towards country music with 2005's 'Goodbye Alice In Wonderland'. She also released several other albums during this period including 2008's 'Perfectly Clear' which marked her return to pop/rock music.
In 2013, Jewel released an autobiography titled 'Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half The Story'. In 2017, she appeared as a mentor on season 12 of NBC's singing competition show 'The Voice.' Currently she is working on new music while continuing to tour the United States and Europe.
