Malcolm James McCormick, known professionally as Mac Miller, was an American rapper and record producer. Miller began his career in Pittsburgh's hip hop scene in 2007, at the age of fifteen.
Mac Miller was born Malcolm James McCormick on January 19, 1992, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is of Jewish and Scots-Irish descent. His mother, Karen Meyers, is a photographer and his father, Mark McCormick, an architect. Miller's musical career began when he was only 14 years old; his first mixtape "But My Mackin' Ain't Easy" was released in 2007 under the name EZ Mac. He later changed it to Mac Miller after being sued by artist Luther Campbell for using the former's stage name.
After gaining recognition from his local fanbase, Miller signed with Rostrum Records in 2010 and released his debut album "Blue Slide Park". The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and earned him two Grammy Award nominations. He followed this up with several more albums including "Watching Movies with the Sound Off", "GO:OD AM" and "The Divine Feminine".
Throughout his career Miller collaborated with many artists including Ariana Grande, Ab-Soul, Vince Staples and Schoolboy Q among others. In 2018 he announced that he had signed a record deal with Warner Bros., but sadly died of an accidental drug overdose later that year at the age of 26.
