Asa Bopp Farr Butterfield (/ˈeɪsə/; born Asa Maxwell Thornton Farr Butterfield on 1 April 1997) is an English actor. Asa Maxwell Thornton Farr Butterfield was born on April 1, 1997, in Islington, London, England. His zodiac sign is Aries and he is of English and Jewish descent. He has two brothers and one sister, who are all older than him. Asa's father Sam Butterfield works as a celebrity photographer while his mother Jacqueline Farr is an artist.
At the age of 7, Asa began acting when his parents took him to an open audition for the 2004 film Son of Rambow. He got the part and this led to roles in other films such as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008) and Hugo (2011). For his performance in the latter film he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy at the 2012 ceremony.
In 2013, Asa starred in Ender's Game alongside Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley. The same year he also had a role in the critically acclaimed drama Nanny McPhee Returns as well as appearing in the BBC series Merlin. In 2014, he appeared in X+Y which won several awards at film festivals around the world.
His most recent projects include starring opposite Emma Mackey in Netflix’s hit show Sex Education (2019–present), playing Jacob Portman in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016) and acting alongside Denzel Washington in The Equalizer 2 (2018). He will be seen next starring opposite Michael Caine and Taron Egerton in King’s Man prequel due for release next year.
