Ashley Judd was born Ashley Tyler Ciminella on April 19, 1968, in Granada Hills, California. Her zodiac sign is Aries and her ethnicity is Scottish-Irish. Ashley has six siblings and grew up in a family of devout Christians. She attended the University of Kentucky and graduated with a degree in French.

Judd began acting at a young age, appearing in several television series throughout the 1990s. She made her film debut in 1993's "Ruby in Paradise" and soon rose to prominence as an actress. In 1995, she appeared in the box-office hit "Smoke" and went on to appear in numerous other films throughout the decade, including "Kiss the Girls," "Double Jeopardy," and "High Crimes." 

In 2001, Judd starred opposite Morgan Freeman in the box office hit "Along Came a Spider" and was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards for her performance. The same year she also starred opposite Robert Redford in the period drama "The Last Castle" and had a supporting role opposite Reese Witherspoon in "Sweet Home Alabama." In 2004, Judd co-starred alongside Bruce Willis in the action thriller "Twisted" and then again with Willis in 2005's "Derailed." She went on to star opposite Andy Garcia in 2006's romantic comedy "Crossing Over" before taking a break from acting to focus on humanitarian work. 

Judd returned to acting full time by 2010, appearing alongside Robert De Niro, Susan Sarandon, and Topher Grace that year's ensemble dramedy "New Year's Eve." Since then she has gone on to star in several critically acclaimed dramas such as 2014's "Dolphin Tale 2," 2015's psychological thriller “Insurgent” and 2018’s “A Dog’s Way Home.”
