Peter Gene Hernandez, better known as Bruno Mars, was born on October 8, 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was raised by his father Peter Hernandez Sr., a Latin percussionist and singer, and his mother Bernadette “Bernie” San Pedro Bayot. Mars is of Puerto Rican and Filipino descent. His nicknames include “Bruno” and “Babyface Mars.”

From a young age, Mars was drawn to music; he began performing at the age of four when he joined his family's band The Love Notes and performed with them for five years. At the age of 11 he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music, where he began writing songs for other artists at Motown Records and also released his own music under the pseudonym "Bruno Hooligans."

In 2004, Mars signed a deal with Atlantic Records and released his debut single "Just The Way You Are," which became an international hit. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for weeks and earned him three Grammy Awards in 2011. Since then, Mars has become one of the biggest names in pop music; he has released several hit singles including "Locked Out of Heaven," "Uptown Funk" (with Mark Ronson), and "24K Magic". He has collaborated with many artists including Cardi B, Ed Sheeran, Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg.

In 2018, Bruno received six Grammy Award nominations for his album 24K Magic along with Song Of The Year nomination for "That's What I Like". He's also won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance twice in 2013 & 2017 respectively. Additionally, Bruno won Best Pop Vocal Album four times throughout his career—in 2014, 2015 & 2016 consecutively—and once again in 2019.
