About

Chris Cornell was born Christopher John Boyle on July 20th, 1964 in Seattle, Washington. He was the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the bands Soundgarden and Audioslave. As a solo artist he released five studio albums. In addition to his work as a musician, he was also an activist and philanthropist.

Cornell began performing music at age 12 when he joined his first band called The Shemps. His career took off in 1984 when he joined the band Soundgarden with bassist Hiro Yamamoto and drummer Matt Cameron. They released their first album Ultramega OK in 1988 which gained them some attention within the Seattle music scene. Their second album Louder Than Love (1989) was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 1991 they released their third album Badmotorfinger which sold over two million copies in the U.S. and spawned several hit singles such as "Jesus Christ Pose" and "Outshined".

In 2001, after disbanding Soundgarden, Cornell went on to form Audioslave with Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, Tim Commerford, Brad Wilk and later Zack de la Rocha replacing Chris Cornell as the lead singer. Audioslave released three albums before splitting up in 2007; Out of Exile (2005), Revelations (2006) and their eponymous debut Audioslave (2002). Following this, Cornell returned to his solo career releasing Carry On (2007), Scream (2009), Songbook (2011) and Higher Truth (2015).

Throughout his career, Cornell has been involved with various charity organizations including The Chris & Vicky Cornell Foundation which focuses on helping vulnerable children around the world through education and nutrition programs.
