Courtney Michelle Love is an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, and actress. A figure in the alternative and grunge scenes of the 1990s, her career has spanned four decades. She rose to prominence as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the alternative rock band Hole, which she formed in 1989.

Courtney Love was born on July 9, 1964, in San Francisco, California. Her zodiac sign is Cancer, and her ethnicity is Caucasian. She is the daughter of Linda Carroll and Hank Harrison, an author and publisher who was a key member of the San Francisco music scene in the 1960s. Love has three half-siblings; two from her mother's previous marriage and one from her father's previous relationship.
Love began playing guitar when she was fourteen years old, learning classical pieces by composers such as Bach and Beethoven. At the age of sixteen, she dropped out of school to pursue a career in music. In the early 1980s, Love moved to Minneapolis where she sang with various bands before forming her own band called Sugar Babydoll in 1985. She then moved to Los Angeles where she formed Hole in 1989 with Eric Erlandson on guitar, Jill Emery on bass, and Caroline Rue on drums. The band released their debut album "Pretty On The Inside" in 1991 which was acclaimed by critics for its raw energy and punk rock sound. In 1995, Hole released their second album "Live Through This" which featured singles such as "Violet" and "Miss World". The album received critical acclaim and earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.
Love also pursued a solo career releasing her debut solo album "America's Sweetheart" in 2004 which included songs such as "Mono" and "Hold On To Me". In 2012, she collaborated with Lana Del Rey for the single "You Know My Name". She has also appeared in films such as Basquiat (1996), Man on the Moon (1999), Trapped (2002) and Sons of Anarchy (2013).
