Chris Tucker was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 31, 1971. His mother is Mary Louise and his father Norris Tucker. He has four siblings: two sisters, two brothers, and one half-sister. Tucker began doing stand-up comedy at the age of 17 in local clubs. In 1991 he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.

In 1995, Tucker gained recognition when he co-starred alongside Ice Cube in New Line Cinema’s hit film Friday. This role earned him an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture and numerous other nominations. Following that success, he went on to star in the Rush Hour film series with Jackie Chan, Money Talks (1997), The Fifth Element (1997) and Silver Linings Playbook (2012).

In addition to his onscreen roles, Tucker has been featured as a voice actor in animated films such as Disney’s Mulan (1998) and Dreamworks’ Kung Fu Panda (2008). He also had a recurring role on the HBO series The Bernie Mac Show from 2002–2005.

Tucker is also known for his philanthropy work – notably his commitment to helping children with cancer through St Jude Children's Research Hospital. He has donated millions of dollars over the years and continues to be involved with several charities worldwide.
