Courteney Bass Cox is an American actress and filmmaker. She gained international recognition for her starring role as Monica Geller on the NBC sitcom Friends, which aired from 1994 to 2004. For her performance in the series, she received seven Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, of which she won one.

Courteney Bass Cox was born on June 15, 1964 in Birmingham, Alabama. Her zodiac sign is Gemini and her ethnicity is Irish-American. She is the daughter of Richard Lewis Cox and Courteney Copeland Bass, and she has two older sisters. Cox grew up in an artistic family: her father was a businessman and her mother was a former model turned talent agent. 

Cox attended Mountain Brook High School and then attended Mount Vernon College in Washington D.C., where she studied architecture. After college, she moved to New York City to pursue acting, starting her career with small roles in music videos and television commercials. In 1985, she got her first movie role with the movie “Masters of the Universe” followed by “Mr. Destiny” in 1990. 

In 1994, Cox landed the role of Monica Geller on the hit sitcom “Friends” which ran for 10 seasons until 2004. During this time, she received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy. Following Friends, Cox had roles in various films such as “The Longest Yard” (2005), “Bedtime Stories” (2008), and “Scream 4” (2011). 

In 2009, Cox starred as Jules Cobb on ABC's comedy series “Cougar Town” which ran for six seasons until 2015. Since 2016, she has starred as Gale Weathers-Riley in the Fox series “Scream Queens” and appeared in the Netflix original series “Family Reunion” (2020). In addition to acting, Cox has directed several episodes of Cougar Town and Family Reunion.
