David Kenneth Harbour was born on April 10, 1975 in White Plains, New York. He is an American actor best known for portraying Jim Hopper in the Netflix science fiction horror series Stranger Things. He has also appeared in films such as The Green Hornet, Suicide Squad and Black Mass. 

Harbour started his acting career by appearing in a number of off-Broadway plays in the late 1990s. In 2005, he made his Broadway debut in a revival of Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge. His performance earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play. In 2011, he appeared in his first feature film role as Mr. Reese in The Green Hornet and then went on to appear in other films such as End of Watch (2012) and Quantum of Solace (2008). 

In 2016, Harbour got his big break when he was cast as Chief Jim Hopper on Stranger Things which garnered him critical acclaim and multiple award nominations including two Critics' Choice Television Awards. He won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast along with the rest of the cast members of Stranger Things. In 2019, he reprised his role as Hopper on season 3 of Stranger Things that released in July 2019. 

Apart from acting, Harbour is also actively involved with charities that work towards helping children facing poverty and homelessness. In 2018, he gave away his SAG Awards to charity organizations like the ACLU and SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Catastrophic Health Fund which provides assistance to low-income performers who are struggling with illness or disability.
