Dax Randall Shepard is an American actor, comedian, filmmaker and podcast host. Since 2018, he has hosted Armchair Expert, a podcast that interviews celebrities, journalists, and academics about their lives.
Dax Randall Shepard was born on January 2, 1975, in Milford, Michigan. He is the son of Dave Robert Shepard and Laura LaBo, both of whom worked as executives at a car dealership. His mother was African-American and his father was Caucasian. Shepard attended Walled Lake Central High School and graduated in 1993. He then went to college at the University of California, Los Angeles where he majored in Anthropology and studied Spanish Literature.
Shepard began performing stand-up comedy while attending college and eventually moved to Los Angeles after graduating to pursue an acting career. In 2004, he made his feature film debut in Without a Paddle alongside Seth Green and Matthew Lillard. Later that same year, he had a small role in the hit drama The Butterfly Effect starring Ashton Kutcher.
He then went on to star in several other films such as Zathura (2005), Employee of the Month (2006), Idiocracy (2006), Hit & Run (2012) and CHiPs (2017). He also provided voices for a number of animated films including Brother Bear 2 (2006) and Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012). On television, he has had recurring roles on Parenthood (2010–2015) and Bless This Mess (2019–present). In 2020, he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Jess Falker on Parks & Recreation.
