Elliot Page was born on February 21, 1987, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He is the son of Martha Philpotts and Dennis Page. His father was a graphic designer while his mother was a teacher. He is of English, Irish and Mi'kmaq descent. Page attended the Shambhala School in Halifax until he left to pursue his acting career at the age of 10. 

Page began his acting career when he was just 9 years old in the film Pit Pony (1997). He continued to appear in television shows and films throughout his teens, including Trailer Park Boys (2002) and ReGenesis (2004). In 2005, he landed a breakthrough role in Hard Candy as Jeff Kohlver for which he won two awards for Best Actor at the Las Vegas Film Critics Society Awards and San Diego Film Critics Society Awards.

In 2007, Page starred in the title role of Juno which received critical acclaim from critics and audiences alike. The role earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and multiple other award nominations. From there, Page went on to star in numerous films such as X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), Inception (2010), Whip It (2009), Freeheld (2015), Flatliners (2017) and Umbrella Academy (2019–present). He also starred as Vanya Hargreeves in Netflix series Umbrella Academy which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. 

In December 2020, Page publicly came out as a transgender man becoming one of the most visible transgender actors in Hollywood today. Since then, he has been embraced by many members of the LGBTQ+ community who have praised him for being open about his gender identity.
