Jessica Brooke Capshaw Gavigan, popularly known as Jessica Capshaw, was born on August 9th, 1976 in Columbia, Missouri. She is an American actress and former fashion model. Her parents are Robert Capshaw, a sales manager and Kate Capshaw, an actress best known for her role in the Indiana Jones films. 

Capshaw studied at Brown University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. After graduating from college, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and landed a few small roles in television shows such as "ER" and "The Practice." In 2004, she was cast as Dr. Arizona Robbins in the medical drama series Grey's Anatomy; a role which she held until 2018 when her character departed from the show.

In addition to her acting career, Capshaw also worked as a fashion model for brands such as Banana Republic and Gap. She has appeared on numerous magazine covers including Glamour and Cosmopolitan and has made several television appearances including The Late Show with David Letterman and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. 

Capshaw is married to Christopher Gavigan with whom she has four children: Luke Hudson (born 2006), Eve Augusta (born 2008), Poppy James (born 2012) and Josephine Kate (born 2015). Together they founded Baby2Baby, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing low-income children with basic necessities such as diapers and clothing.
